Jay-Z and R.Kelly Unfinished Business
by DJ Timid, Hip-Hopped-Up on Goofballs Staff Writer
November 7, 2005 + Boston, MA

It was a bad idea the first time...
Jay-Z and R. Kelly Unfinished BusinessFor anyone who heard the first Jigga/Kelly collabo, The Best of Both Worlds, listening to Unfinished Business is like throwing up two days after you think the deadly strain of monkey flu has already left your body; it probably won't kill you, but it will certainly remind you dearly of the horrendous experience you just endured.

This album is miserable from the time you're handed the $17.99 sales receipt until you hock the disc back to Newbury Comics for three dollars worth of store credit (elapsed time: 37 hours). Even the usually can't-miss Jay-Z can't salvage much from these poorly constructed songs and disastrously deja vu beats from the Trackmasters. The album is just boring, and fails at keeping the listeners attention at every turn. And considering Jay-Z's past record of successful collaborations (Linkin Park, The Roots) and the reports of the accompanying tour with R. Kelly falling apart, I would say a lot of the blame falls on the Sultan of Statutory, R. Kelly. It is unclear whether this is newly recorded material or purely leftovers from the memorably indigestible first meal, but given its similar sound, scope and packaging, all signs point to the latter. This record and its predecessor should be apologized for and then forgotten about.

On the web: R. Kelly sues Jay-Z... AGAIN!
